Teacher Resources

The Battle River Watershed Alliance is committed to the education and engagement of students across the Battle River and Sounding Creek Watersheds.

Along with the information under Know your Watershed, and in the State of the Watershed Report, we would be happy to provide you with educational material and activities for your classroom to help you meet your curriculum.

We also love invitations to visit classrooms for educational workshops, and we can even help organize and facilitate classroom field trips! Our specialities are freshwater aquatic systems (wetlands, rivers and riparian areas), canoe trips, water testing, biodiversity, land use, and human impacts studies.

Some of the FREE educational programs we provide are:

  •  Canoe Trips
  •  Water Quality Testing (Junior/Senior High)
  •  Discover your Wetland Field Trips (Grade 5)
  •  Wetlands, Trees and Forests (Grades 4-6)

For more information on our educational programs, please open this BRWA Free Education Programs Handout.

We also coordinate two contests which get students involved in learning in interesting ways.

For junior/senior high students, we are honoured to offer the Caring for our Watersheds (CFW) Contest! Please see the pages CFW-In the classroom, or the student focused Caring for our Watersheds Contest page.

For elementary students we offer the Battle River Buddies Poster Contest!  This contest was created in 2011 and we are very happy to offer it for the third time. Visit the Buddies Contest page for guidelines and entry form.
