A biological index for evaluating aquatic habitats, known as the Index of Biological Integrity (IBI), was conducted on the Battle River in 2006 and 2007. IBI assesses river conditions using multi-metric indices that reflect important ecosystem components, including habitat, individual health and abundance. IBI information helps resource managers assess current levels of impairment and predict the effects of land-use activities. IBI data was collected from 80 river sections of the Battle River to shed light on the ecological condition of the river.
