Gooseberry Lake Provincial Park

Environmental

Gooseberry Lake Provincial Park (51.79 ha) was developed mainly for recreation but is surrounded by natural landscapes. The lakeshores are nesting habitat for piping plover.  The Park is classified as a Grassland Foothills Fescue Sub-region.

Gooseberry Lake is an Important Bird Area; large numbers of shorebirds have been recorded during spring & fall migrations; sanderlings & red-necked phalaropes are two of the more common species; the lake is a late-summer staging area for ducks, geese & swans; other water birds such as gulls, great blue herons & American white pelicans, are common in the area; in addition to its importance to shorebirds, Gooseberry Lake supports a small population of the nationally endangered piping plover.

Enjoy the shade, fish in the stocked trout pond, walk or bike the trails, or try the 9-hole golf course. Campsite reservations are not accepted at this park; reservations accepted for group use facilities only.
