Caring For Our Watersheds Contest

This program asks junior and senior high school students to answer the question "What can I do to help improve my watershed?".
The Battle River Watershed Alliance offers schools a FREE presentation introducing students to their watershed and to the contest. Students work individually or in small groups to submit a 1000-word proposal answering the above question, with finalists being invited to give a 5 minute presentation at our awards ceremony. Winning entries receive up to $1000 for themselves and a matching award for their school. Everyone who enters receives a prize.
Schools with multiple entries will receive $100 for every 10 entries plus all finaslist will win matching cash awards for their school. Cheques will be written to the school care of the advisory teacher.
We are committed to helping teachers integrate the contest into the classroom in a way which benefits the teachers and student learning. From an in class presentation to long term mentoring for the students and even helping implement the projects (optional) this contest helps your students help the watershed! This is our 6th year hosting the Caring For Our Watersheds contest in central Alberta, which has been so sucessful that we won a 2011 Emerald Award and it is now also offered across North America and internationally!
